Guys.... After all there are still groups out there who are still trying to compete with google. Hope this is not the end and expect to see a fruitful cyber war which finally benefits 'US'.

Facebook />/>.Though i was expecting that @facebook would provide me with an intresting Mail ID..... i got stunned by observing that the user name you provide @ Account > Account Settings > Username is the ultimate ID which facebook has in store for you !!!!!!

AOL />/>. though they planned to open door to new 'Project Phoenix' e-mail... got discouraged by seeing that the sign-up is through invitation.... Another 'Gmail' imitators. Dont know whether its a cheap advertisement tactics or guys out there want to scaleup gradually.

Getting discouraged from this, i planned to go through mail.com to get some name based fascinating mail ID's. While i was registering in 'mail.com', the sign-in page was going through 'my.screenname.aol' which was exactly the same as the one we see '@phoenix.aol.com'.

So is it that AOL was doing beta test of their mail IDs through 'mail.com' or is it just another mail service which AOL plans to run in parallel ???

Setting up a heterogeneous wireless environment using Openimscore, 802.21 and Asterisk on Ubuntu 10.04: Part - 1

Through this post i'll try to explain how to setup a heterogeneous wireless voice/video calling facility in a closed environment using - OpenIMScore, Asterisk, 802.21, IMS Communicator / UCT IMS Client.

Part - 1: Setting up OpenIMSCore

Step-1
First lets setup OpenIMSCore which act as the backbone for our call session. For you need to install few dependency packages.

$sudo apt-get install ant bind9 mysql-server bison libxml2

Step-2

Now you need to download OpenIMSCore from berlios site. Try getting the latest one using 'SVN'. If you are behind a proxy make sure that you add proxy details in /etc/subversion/servers. Then create a folder named 'OpenIMSCore' in /opt. Change the ownership of the folder to your current user name using chown command and then move to the newly created folder. Once you are in the folder run the following commands to download the files from belios.

$mkdir FHoSS
$svn checkout http://svn.berlios.de/svnroot/repos/openimscore/FHoSS/trunk FHoSS
$mkdir ser_ims
$svn checkout http://svn.berlios.de/svnroot/repos/openimscore/ser_ims/trunk ser_ims

Step-3

By default the access rights set for OpenIMSCore is for local access. Now if you are planning to run clients on separate systems then replace 127.0.0.1 with your system IP address using the following script provided by openims team. I recommend you this step b'coz in future you may need to do this for calling across various clients.

$./ser_ims/cfg/configurator.sh

You can keep the home domain as open-ims.test itself as most of the client devices will be pre-configured using this url. But don't forget to change IP to the one configured on NIC.

Step-4

A sample DNS Zone file is provided by OpenIMS team:- ser_ims/cfg/open-ims.dnszone. So you only need to use it for setting up DNS Zone. Copy the file to /etc/bind and and include the following in /etc/bind/named.conf.local

You also update the /etc/resolv.conf so as to point to the new DNS server. If you havin't played around with your ubuntu distribution much, then i feel its better to update this using GUI rather than command line.

Go to System -> Preferences -> Network Connections. Then select wired -> Auto eth0. Click on the 'edit' button and go to 'IPv4 Settings'. In the 'DNS Servers' column add your IP and in 'Search domains' add open-ims.test

Now restart bind using

$sudo /etc/init.d/bind9 restart

You can check out whether the new configuration works using dig command. Try

$dig open-ims.test

If everything work fine then this will return server as your IP address with a lot of junk info. Dont worry about its output now :) Lets move further !

Step-5

Now come back to your /opt/OpenIMSCore/ser_ims folder. Compile it using

$make install-libs all

Go to your /opt/OpenIMSCore/FHoSS folder. Compile it using

$ant compile
$ant deploy

If all your dependent softwares are installed then i hope you wont have any issues in the above step.

Step-6

Now before running your compiled code, lets setup mysql database for our OpenIMSCore. I hope you might have given proper database password. Now try the following command from your /opt/OpenIMSCore folder.

$mysql -u root -p -h localhost < ser_ims/cfg/icscf.sql
$mysql -u root -p -h localhost < FHoSS/scripts/hss_db.sql
$mysql -u root -p -h localhost < FHoSS/scripts/userdata.sql

Step-7
Using the following commands you need to copy certain files to /opt/OpenIMSCore

$cp ser_ims/cfg/*.cfg .
$cp ser_ims/cfg/*.xml .
$cp ser_ims/cfg/*.sh .

Now your OpenIMSCore setup is ready to run !

Step-8
Try running your pcscf, icscf and scscf components on separate terminals. For this you do

$./pcscf.sh
$./icscf.sh
$./scscf.sh

Make sure you do this on separate terminals.

Now you go to FHoSS/deploy folder and start startup.sh. If you are getting any errors while starting this file, it maybe because your JAVA_HOME environment variable is not set. Try setting it and rerun the same.

Now if every thing is working fine you can see on terminal that the peers are connected across each other !

Troubleshooting:

Setkey Command not found

Try, #sudo apt-get install ipsec-tools

WARNING:peer_connect(): Error opening connection to to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx 3868 >Connection refused

Just run, #/opt/OpenIMSCore/FHoss/deploy/startup.sh

Starting ZoneMinder: Can't open config file '/usr/local/etc/zm.conf': No such file or directory at /usr/local/share/perl/5.10.0/ZoneMinder/Config.pm

This error had wasted half a day of mine............. But ultimately i came to know that its a silly installation issue, which is related to previous installations of zoneminder !

Just go to "/usr/local/share/perl/5.10.0/" and remove Zoneminder folder manually from there... Thatz it !

Now you can reinstall the debian package & hope it works !

Solving the issue of browser not opening php file (Ubuntu)

Setting up of ACTi ACM 8511P camera in Zoneminder

Bitrate : 1.2M (Used by my test setup - You can change it)

Once you are done with the ACTi camera setup now you can open the zoneminder
for streaming the live video to your system.

Just install the zoneminder as detailed below on an Ubuntu PC:
Part - 1

ZoneMinder is now in the Debian repositories. There are downloadable .deb
files for Ubuntu for Edgy and Feisty. At this point it is in the
repository for Gutsy. After you install, you will need to do some
additional work, which is documented in the readme file included in the
package.
After installation do the following:

Link Apache
> sudo ln -s /etc/zm/apache.conf /etc/apache2/conf.d/zoneminder.conf
Restart Apache
> sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart

suid zmfix
> sudo chmod 4755 /usr/bin/zmfix

Run zmfix
> zmfix -a

Fix export problem
> sudo chown www-data.www-data /usr/share/zoneminder/temp

edit /etc/sysctl.conf and add the following lines (for 128meg shared mem)(**Maybe of use later**)
> kernel.shmall = 134217728
> kernel.shmmax = 134217728

Download cambozola.jar and put it in /usr/share/zoneminder (**Maybe of use later**)

> You should now be able to access the Zone Minder console through the web
> browser http://localhost/zm

> Set path to ffmpeg in options -> Images /usr/bin/ffmpeg
> test with xawtv (-nodga may be needed)

Once the installation setup is done, open zoneminder in your browser and click on
"Add new monitor" and update the settings as shown below:

For performing the PTZ setup on ACTi, i feel till now there is no direct method provided by the company.... but you can try the following method as a work around for the time being.

Goto "/usr/share/perl/5.10.0/ZoneMinder/Control" on your Ubuntu PC and do a back up of "AxisV2.pm" file.

Once its done just open the file using "sudo gedit AxisV2.pm" and replace the content with the following...

Exiv2 is a C++ library and a command line utility to manage image metadata. It provides fast and easy read and write access to the Exif, IPTC and XMP metadata of images in various formats. Exiv2 is available as free software and with a commercial license, and is used in many projects.

The Exiv2 library provides

fast read and write access to the Exif, IPTC, and XMP metadata of an image
an easy to use and extensively documented API
a smart IPTC implementation that does not affect data that programs like Photoshop store in the same image segment
adjust the Exif timestamp (that's how it all started...)
rename Exif image files according to the Exif timestamp
extract, insert and delete Exif, IPTC and XMP metadata and JPEG comments
extract previews from RAW images and thumbnails from the Exif metadata
insert and delete the thumbnail image embedded in the Exif metadata
print, set and delete the JPEG comment of JPEG images
fix the Exif ISO setting of picture taken with Canon and Nikon cameras

By default, the utility can print a summary of the Exif information by using the following command.

To make a USB Web-camera to work on linux system you need to Install the webcam driver for web-camera. In most cases, webcam drivers differ according to the model of the webcam attached to your PC and according to the computer's operating system and the on-board video card. The main function of a webcam driver is to allow the operating system and installed webcam software applications to transmit digital images/video from the camera through the PC to an application / steaming connection.

In most cases, advanced operating systems such as Linux, Windows XP and Windows Vista contain default drivers that can detect a webcam on the first instance it is connected to the machine.

In Linux distributions many webcams will "just work" by default.

In Linux there are 2 different drivers which covers the majority of web-cameras available, these are the gspca and linux-uvc driver. You will need to determine which is the correct driver to install. If you are not sure which webcam you have you can make use of the 'lspci' and 'lsusb' commands to print a list of devices on your system.

After determining your webcam type you need to see which driver supports your webcam. Here is a list of webcams supported by the gspca driver (http://mxhaard.free.fr/spca5xx.html) and the Linux-UVC project has a good list of UVC compatible webcams supported by the linux-uvc driver (http://linux-uvc.berlios.de/#devices).

If you webcam doesn't appear on either list then it's possible your webcam isn't supported. If you like you can just try installing both drivers anyway and see how you go.

Linux UVC driver project
The goal of this project is to provide all necessary software components to fully support UVC compliant devices in Linux. The USB Device Class Definition for Video Devices, or USB Video Class (UVC), defines video streaming functionality on the Universal Serial Bus. Much like nearly all mass storage devices (USB flash disks, external IDE disk enclosures, ...) can be managed by a single driver because they conform to the USB Mass Storage specification, UVC compliant peripherals only need a generic driver.

GSPCA project
The gpsca video for linux (v4l) driver, provides support for webcams and digital cameras based on the spca5xx range of chips manufactured by SunPlus, Sonix, Z-star, Vimicro, Conexant, Etoms, Mars-semi, Pixart and Transvision.The gspca driver is a rewrite of the well known spca5xx v4l kernel module from the same author, Michel Xhaard.

Installing UVC driver on Ubuntu

Ensure that you have the header files for building the UVC module with:

# sudo apt-get install linux-headers-`uname -r`

In latest versions of Ubuntu the UVC module has been included which means that some webcams 'just work' but it is recommended that you still download the source code at LinuxTV uvcvideo development repository - (http://linux-uvc.berlios.de/#download)

Navigate to the 'uvcvideo' directory (or some similar name) containing the source. If you want to customize which drivers to compile, run:

# make menuconfig

If you do not know how to customize, just accept the defaults and exit by pressing ESC twice. To compile the drivers, run

# make

then, to install the compiled drivers to the appropriate module directories, run

# sudo make install

followed by

# sudo depmod -a

After that just ensure that you can see the webcam connected to the USB using:

# lsusb

If it is there, then run:

# sudo modprobe uvcvideo

Installing GSPCA driver on Ubuntu

GSPCA drivers are by default provided with ubuntu distribution. Else try the following command to install it.

# sudo aptitude install gspca-source -y

In the /usr/src directory, archive with driver source gspca-source.tar.bz2 will appear. Unpack it and change directory to /usr/src/modules/gspca and execute following:

# make

Module must compile without errors. Next, do this:

# sudo make install

This command will install your module in directory, were other kernel modules are placed. Optionally it can be executed:

# sudo depmode -a

That`s almost all, our goal is to load module of a webcam:

# sudo modprobe gspca

Testing your webcam

Ekiga is installed by default in Ubuntu, and can be used to test your webcam. For UVC devices luvcview is a good program you can use to test that the camera is working. If it doesn't work, you may need to update the UVC driver. Cheese, Camorama, xawtv, VLC, aMSN, and Kopete are all in the Ubuntu repositories. They all can be used to test and use your webcam. In some cases you (VLC, mplayer, amongst others) will need to know the video and audio device files for your webcam. Before you plug in your webcam, try the following two command at a console:

# ls /dev/video*
# ls /dev/audio*

Make a note of the devices appearing. Now plug in your webcam, allow the system a few seconds to register the device, and run the two commands again. The new appearances should belong to your webcam (for instance, /dev/video1 and /dev/audio2).

Command Line Image Grabbing in Linux

Streamer

Streamer (http://linux.bytesex.org/xawtv/) is a versatile program that allows a capture from a webcam or video device using only the command line. It may be offered in your Linux distribution's Xawtv package. To install streamer try

# sudo apt-get install xawtv

To take a standard JPEG picture from the command line where the camera is accessed through /dev/video0:

#streamer -c /dev/video0 -b 16 -o outfile.jpeg

Where > -b is the number of colors (in bpp,whether 15, 16, 24 or 32)
& -o is the output filename in the current directory

If you are going to capture multiple images be sure to append the output file name with zeros, as streamer can name the capture files in sequence, i.e., -o outfile000.jpeg becomes outfile001.jpeg, outfile002.jpeg, and so on.

Motion

Motion (http://www.lavrsen.dk/twiki/bin/view/Motion/WebHome) is a brilliant program that is able to monitor the video signal from one or several webcams. It can record periodic snapshots, and when motion is detected, record an mpeg and/or perform another action such as sending an email or executing a command. It can track and graphically mark the motion it detects, feed files via an http server to your website, stream them to another application and more. The number of command line options may be intimidating; there is however, a Wiki available online (http://www.lavrsen.dk/twiki/bin/view/Motion/MotionGuide) that outlines the various command and configuration file options nicely.

camE

camE is a rewrite of the xawtv webcam application using imlib2. It is a command-line program that works in daemon mode to capture frames from your v4l device for archive or upload (to a webserver, for example) via ftp or scp. You can overlay other graphics, timestamp the frames, or add other dynamic text all by altering the appropriate line in the configuration file.

For setting up TFTP server on Ubuntu you can use either tftpd, atftpd or tftpd-hpa.

tftpd Setup

Install tftpd on your system.

#sudo apt-get install tftpd

Configuring the tftpd directory:

#sudo mkdir /tftpboot ; if directory is not yet created
#sudo chmod -R 777 /tftpboot
#sudo chown -R username:username /tftpboot ;replace 'username' with your actual username

Create /etc/xinetd.d/tftp and insert the following:
service tftp
{
socket_type = dgram
protocol = udp
wait = yes
user = username ; Enter your user name
server = /usr/sbin/in.tftpd
server_args = -s /tftpboot
per_source = 11
cps = 100 2
disable = no
}

Now restart the tftpd server

#sudo /etc/init.d/xinetd start

advanced TFTP server (atftpd) setup

atftp is a client/server implementation of the TFTP protocol that implements RFCs 1350, 2090, 2347, 2348, and 2349. The server is multi-threaded. & also supports multicast protocol known as mtftp, defined in the PXE specification.

Install the server using the command:

#sudo apt-get install atftpd

Configuring the directory:

#sudo mkdir /tftpboot ; if directory is not yet created
#sudo chmod -R 777 /tftpboot
#sudo chown -R username:username /tftpboot ;replace 'username' with your actual username
#sudo /etc/init.d/atftpd restart

If you want ATFTP to be run as a server directly than through inetd, try the following

#sudo vim /etc/default/atftpd

Change the 'USE_INETD=true' line to 'USE_INETD=false'.... save and quit.

Use the following command to start atftpd:

#sudo invoke-rc.d atftpd start

tftpd-hpa setup

This is a tftp server derived from OpenBSD tftp with some extra options added. Like atftpd It is useful if you want to use the PXE protocol which has some non-standard requirements for tftp.

Install tftpd on your system.

#sudo apt-get install tftpd-hpa

While installation it will ask whether you need to configure the server or not. Enter yes to do a default configuration. By default the system will consider "/var/lib/tftpboot" as the default directory.

If you need to change the default directory to '/tftpboot', then create a directory as mentioned earlier, give the necessary permissions and then edit '/etc/default/tftp-hpa'.

Modify 'OPTIONS="-l -s /var/lib/tftpboot" to 'OPTIONS="-l -s /tftpboot"

and restart the server

# sudo /etc/init.d/tftpd-hpa restart

To run the tftpd-hpa as a daemon, set in '/etc/default/tftp-hpa' the following:

RUN_DAEMON="yes"

and restart the server

# sudo /etc/init.d/tftpd-hpa restart

The Window

Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour a day to drain the fluids from his lungs. His bed was next to the room's only window. The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back.

The men talked for hours on end. They spoke of their familes, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation. And every afternoon when the man in the bed next to the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window.

The man in the other bed would live for those one-hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and color of the outside world. The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake, the man had said. Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Lovers walked arm in arm amid flowers of every color of the rainbow. Grand old trees graced the landscape, and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance. As the man by the window described all this in exquisite detail, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine the picturesque scene.

One warm afternoon the man by the window described a parade passing by. Although the other man could not hear the band, he could see it in his mind's eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words. Unexpectedly, an alien thought entered his head: Why should he have all the pleasure of seeing everything while I never get to see anything? It didn't seem fair. As the thought fermented, the man felt ashamed at first. But as the days passed and he missed seeing more sights, his envy eroded into resentment and soon turned him sour. He began to brood and found himself unable to sleep. He should be by that window - and that thought now controlled his life.

Late one night, as he lay staring at the ceiling, the man by the window began to cough. He was choking on the fluid in his lungs. The other man watched in the dimly lit room as the struggling man by the window groped for the button to call for help. Listening from across the room, he never moved, never pushed his own button which would have brought the nurse running. In less than five minutes, the coughing and choking stopped, along with the sound of breathing. Now, there was only silence--deathly silence.

The following morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths. When she found the lifeless body of the man by the window, she was saddened and called the hospital attendant to take it away--no words, no fuss. As soon as it seemed appropriate, the man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch and after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone.

Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look. Finally, he would have the joy of seeing it all himself. He strained to slowly turn to look out the window beside the bed - It faced a blank wall.

Moral of the story:

The pursuit of happiness is a matter of choice...it is a positive attitude we consciously choose to express. It is not a gift that gets delivered to our doorstep each morning, nor does it come through the window. Our circumstances are just a small part of what makes us joyful. If we wait for them to get just right, we will never find lasting joy.

The pursuit of happiness is an inward journey. Our minds are like programs, awaiting the code that will determine behaviors; like bank vaults awaiting our deposits. If we regularly deposit positive, encouraging, and uplifting thoughts, if we continue to bite our lips just before we begin to grumble and complain, if we shoot down that seemingly harmless negative thought as it germinates, we will find that there is much to rejoice about.

Hurricanes, typhoons and windstorms, which draw energy from warmer ocean waters, are likely to increase in intensity, saddling the insurance industry with $27 billion a year in annual losses by the 2080s. That's an increase of nearly 70%, the Association of British Insurers reported last year.

So what can WE do to reduce global warming?

Here are 10 simple actions you can take to help reduce global warming.

1) Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Do your part to reduce waste by choosing reusable products instead of disposables. Buying products with minimal packaging (including the economy size when that makes sense for you) will help to reduce waste. And whenever you can, recycle paper, plastic, newspaper, glass and aluminum cans. If there isn't a recycling program at your workplace, school, or in your community, ask about starting one. By recycling half of your household waste, you can save 2,400 pounds of carbon dioxide annually.

2) Use Less Air Conditioning
Turn down the cooler while you're sleeping at night or away from the room, and try keeping temperatures moderate at all times. Setting your thermostat just 2 degrees lower in winter and higher in summer could save about 2,000 pounds of carbon dioxide each year.

3) Change a Light Bulb
Wherever practical, replace regular light bulbs with compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs. Replacing just one 60-watt incandescent light bulb with a CFL will save you $30 over the life of the bulb. CFLs also last 10 times longer than incandescent bulbs, use two-thirds less energy, and give off 70 percent less heat.

It is estimated that if every U.S. family replaced one regular light bulb with a CFL, it would eliminate 90 billion pounds of greenhouse gases, the same as taking 7.5 million cars off the road.

4) Drive Less and Drive Smart
Less driving means fewer emissions. Besides saving gasoline, walking and biking are great forms of exercise.

When you do drive, make sure your car is running efficiently. For example, keeping your tires properly inflated can improve your gas mileage by more than 3 percent. Every gallon of gas you save not only helps your budget, it also keeps 20 pounds of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere.

5) Buy Energy-Efficient Products
When it's time to buy a new car, choose one that offers good gas mileage. Home appliances now come in a range of energy-efficient models, and compact florescent bulbs are designed to provide more natural-looking light while using far less energy than standard light bulbs.

Avoid products that come with excess packaging, especially molded plastic and other packaging that can't be recycled. If you reduce your household garbage by 10 percent, you can save 1,200 pounds of carbon dioxide annually.

6) Use Less Hot Water
Wash your clothes in warm or cold water to reduce your use of hot water and the energy required to produce it. That change alone can save at least 500 pounds of carbon dioxide annually in most households in UK.

7) Let the clothes air-dry
Use the energy-saving settings on your washing machine and let the clothes air-dry whenever possible.

8) Use the "Off" Switch
Save electricity and reduce global warming by turning off lights when you leave a room, and using only as much light as you need. And remember to turn off your television, video player, stereo and computer when you're not using them.

It's also a good idea to turn off the water when you're not using it. While brushing your teeth, shampooing or washing your car, turn off the water until you actually need it for rinsing. You'll reduce your water bill and help to conserve a vital resource.

9)Plant a Tree
If you have the means to plant a tree, start digging. During photosynthesis, trees and other plants absorb carbon dioxide and give off oxygen. They are an integral part of the natural atmospheric exchange cycle here on Earth, but there are too few of them to fully counter the increases in carbon dioxide caused by automobile traffic, manufacturing and other human activities. A single tree will absorb approximately one ton of carbon dioxide during its lifetime.

10) Encourage Others to Conserve
Share information about recycling and energy conservation with your friends, neighbors and co-workers, and take opportunities to encourage public to establish programs and policies that are good for the environment.

Thus, he asked the 4th wife, "I loved you most, endowed you with the finest clothing and showered great care over you. Now that I'm dying, will you follow me and keep me company?" "No way!" replied the 4th wife and she walked away without another word.

The answer cut like a sharp knife right into the merchant's heart. The sad merchant then asked the 3rd wife, "I have loved you so much for all my life. Now that I'm dying, will you follow me and keep me company?" "No!" replied the 3rd wife. "Life is so good over here! I'm going to remarry when you die!" The merchant's heart sank and turned cold.

He then asked the 2nd wife, "I always turned to you for help and you've always helped me out. Now I need your help again. When I die, will you follow me and keep me company?" "I'm sorry, I can't help you out this time!" replied the 2nd wife. "At the very most, I can only send you to your grave." The answer came like a bolt of thunder and the merchant was devastated.

Then a voice called out : "I'll leave with you. I'll follow you no matter where you go." The merchant looked up and there was his first wife. She was so skinny, almost like she suffered from malnutrition. Greatly grieved, the merchant said, "I should have taken much better care of you while I could have !"

d. The 1st wife is in fact our soul, often neglected in our pursuit of material, wealth and sensual pleasure.

In his inspiring book Be A People Person, John Maxwell tells a true story about an important game of football that took place between two English schools. During the closing minutes of the contest, a boy named William Webb Ellis, more gifted with enthusiasm and school spirit than with experience, was sent into the game for the first time. Forgetting all the rules, particularly the one that says a player does not touch the ball with his hands, and conscious only of the fact that the ball had to be at the goal line within seconds if his school were to be victorious, the boy picked up the ball and, to the amazement of everyone, started the sprint of his life to the goal line.

The confused officials and players remained frozen where they stood, but the spectators were so moved by the boy's spirit and entertained by his performance that they stood up and applauded long and loudly.

This incident totally eclipsed the rest of the game's action. As a result, a new sport was born: Rugby. It wasn't because of carefully worded arguments and rule changes, it was because of one boy's enthusiastic mistake.

The bottom line is that sometimes spontaneity produces incredible results and enthusiasm is always an asset in life. Be spontaneous and enthusiastic and I'll see you at the top!

The supervisor thought that this was a great opportunity to make a fortune. He used the cheapest material inside but made the house look beautiful from outside..

It was a sports stadium.

Eight Children were standing on the track to participate in the running event.

* Ready! * Steady! * Bang !!!

With the sound of Toy pistol , all eight girls started running.

Hardly have they covered ten to fifteen steps, one of the smaller girls slipped and fell down, due to bruises and pain she started crying.

When other seven girls heard this sound, stopped running, stood for a while and turned back , they all ran back to the place where the girl fell down.

One among them bent, picked and kissed the girl gently and enquired ' Now pain must have reduced' .

All seven girls lifted the fallen girl, pacified her, two of them held the girl firmly and they all seven joined hands together and walked together and reached the winning post.

Officials were shocked. Clapping of thousands of spectators filled the stadium.

Many eyes were filled with tears

This happened in Hyderabad [INDIA], recently!

The sport was conducted by National Institute of Mental Health.

All these special girls had come to participate in this event and they are spastic children.

Yes, they were mentally retarded Challenged. What did they teach this world?

Teamwork? Humanity? Equality among all??

The Apple Tree

A long time ago, there was a huge apple tree. A little boy loved to come and play around it every day. He loved the tree top, ate the apples, took a nap under the shadow...He loved the tree and the tree loved to play with him. Time went by.......

The little boy had grown up and he no longer played around the tree everyday. One day the boy came back to the tree and he looked sad. "Come play with me," asked the tree. I am no longer a kid, I don't play around trees anymore." The boy replied, "I want toys. I need money to buy them." "Sorry, but I don't have money..... but you can pick my apples and sell them. Then you will have money." The boy was so excited. He grabbed all the apples on the tree and left happily. The boy never came back after he picked the apples.

The tree was sad.. One day the boy returned and the tree was so excited. "Come and play with me" the tree said. I don't have time to play. I have to work for my family. We need a house for shelter. Can you help me? "Sorry but I don't have a house. But you can chop off my branches to build your house." So the boy cut all the branches off the tree and left happily. The tree was glad to see him happy but the boy never came back since then.

The tree was lonely and sad. One hot summer day, the boy returned and the tree was so lighted. "Come and play with me!" the tree said. "I am so sad and getting old. I want to go sailing to relax myself. Can you give me a boat? " "Use my trunk to build your boat. You can sail far away and be happy." So the boy cut the tree trunk to make a boat. He went sailing and never showed up for a very long long time.

Finally, the boy returned after he left for so many years. "Sorry, my boy, but I don't have anything for you anymore. No more apples for you...." the tree said". "I don't have teeth to bite" the boy replied. "No more trunk for you to climb on" I am too old for that now" the boy said. "I really can't give you anything.....the only thing left is my dying roots" the tree said with tears. "I don't need much now, just a place to rest. I am tired after all these years." The boy replied "Good! Old Tree Roots is the best place to lean and rest on." "Come, come sit down with me and rest " The boy sat down and the tree was glad and smiled with tears......

This is a story for everyone. The tree is our parents. When we were young, we loved to play with Mom and Dad...When we grew up, we left them...only come to them when we need something or when we are in trouble. No matter what, parents will always be there and give everything they can to make you happy. You may think the boy is cruel to the tree but that is how all of us are treating our parents.

As he looked down the beach, he saw a human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself to think of someone who would dance to the day. So he began to walk faster to catch up. As he got closer, he saw that it was a young man and the young man wasn't dancing, but instead he was reaching down to the shore, picking up something and very gently throwing it into the ocean.

As he got closer he called out, "Good morning! What are you doing?"

The young man paused, looked up and replied, "Throwing starfish in the ocean."

"I guess.. I should have asked, why are you throwing starfish in the ocean?"

"The sun is up, and the tide is going out. And if I don't throw them in they'll die."

"But, young man, don't you realize that there are miles and miles of beach, and starfish all along it. You can't possibly make a difference!"

The young man listened politely. Then bent down, picked another starfish and threw it into the sea, past the breaking waves and said, "It made a difference for that one."

He told them that you cannot judge a tree, or a person, by only one season, and that the essence of who they are and the pleasure, joy, and love that come from that life can only be measured at the end, when all the seasons are up.

The 80/20 Rule is one of the most helpful of all concepts of time and life management. It is also called the "Pareto Principle" after its founder, the Italian economist Vilfredo Pareto, who first wrote about it in 1895. Pareto noticed that people in his society seemed to divide naturally into what he called the "vital few", the top 20 percent in terms of money, influence opinion and success, and the "trivial many", were in the bottom 80 percent.

He later discovered that virtually all economic activity was subject to this principle as well. For example, this principle says that 20 percent of your activities will account for 80 percent of your results, 20 percent of your customers will account for 80 percent of your sales, 20 percent of your products or services will account for 80 percent of your profits, 20 percent of your tasks will account for 80 percent of the value of what you do, and so on. A young man was getting ready to graduate college. For many months he had admired a beautiful sports car in a dealer's showroom, and knowing his father could well afford it, he told him that was all he wanted.

As Graduation Day approached, the young man awaited signs that his father had purchased the car. Finally, on the morning of his graduation his father called him into his private study. His father told him how proud he was to have such a fine son, and told him how much he loved him. He handed his son a beautiful wrapped gift box.

Curious, but somewhat disappointed the young man opened the box and found a lovely, leather-bound Bible. Angrily, he raised his voice at his father and said, "With all your money you give me a Bible?" and stormed out of the house, leaving the holy book.

Many years passed and the young man was very successful in business.
He had a beautiful home and wonderful family, but realized his father was very old, and thought perhaps he should go to him. He had not seen him since that graduation day. Before he could make arrangements, he received a telegram telling him his father had passed away, and willed all of his possessions to his son. He needed to come home immediately and take care things. When he arrived at his father's house, sudden sadness and regret filled his heart.

He began to search his father's important papers and saw the still new Bible, just as he had left it years ago. With tears, he opened the Bible and began to turn the pages. As he read those words, a car key dropped from an envelope taped behind the Bible.

It had a tag with the dealer's name, the same dealer who had the
sports car he had desired. On the tag was the date of his graduation, and the words...PAID IN FULL.

Mahatma Gandhi went from city to city, village to village collecting funds for the Charkha Sangh. During one of his tours he addressed a meeting in Orissa. After his speech a poor old woman got up. She was bent with age, her hair was grey and her clothes were in tatters. The volunteers tried to stop her, but she fought her way to the place where Gandhiji was sitting. "I must see him," she insisted and going up to Gandhiji touched his feet. Then from the folds of her sari she brought out a copper coin and placed it at his feet. Gandhiji picked up the copper coin and put it away carefully. The Charkha Sangh funds were under the charge of Jamnalal Bajaj. He asked Gandhiji for the coin but Gandhiji refused. "I keep cheques worth thousands of rupees for the Charkha Sangh," Jamnalal Bajaj said laughingly "yet you won't trust me with a copper coin." "This copper coin is worth much more than those thousands," Gandhiji said. "If a man has several lakhs and he gives away a thousand or two, it doesn't mean much. But this coin was perhaps all that the poor woman possessed. She gave me all she had. That was very generous of her. What a great sacrifice she made. That is why I value this copper coin more than a crore of rupees."

Brooklyn Bridge - The Inside Story (Inspirational)

In 1883, a creative engineer named John Roebling was inspired by an idea to build a spectacular bridge connecting New York with the Long Island. However bridge building experts throughout the world thought that this was an impossible feat and told Roebling to forget the idea. It just could not be done. It was not practical. It had never been done before.

Roebling could not ignore the vision he had in his mind of this bridge. He thought about it all the time and he knew deep in his heart that it could be done. He just had to share the dream with someone else. After much discussion and persuasion he managed to convince his son Washington, an up and coming engineer, that the bridge in fact could be built.

Working together for the first time, the father and son developed concepts of how it could be accomplished and how the obstacles could be overcome. With great excitement and inspiration, and the headiness of a wild challenge before them, they hired their crew and began to build their dream bridge.

The project started well, but when it was only a few months underway a tragic accident on the site took the life of John Roebling. Washington was injured and left with a certain amount of brain damage, which resulted in him not being able to walk or talk or even move.

"We told them so."

"It`s foolish to chase wild visions."

Everyone had a negative comment to make and felt that the project should be scrapped since the Roeblings were the only ones who knew how the bridge could be built. In spite of his handicap Washington was never discouraged and still had a burning desire to complete the bridge and his mind was still as sharp as ever.

He tried to inspire and pass on his enthusiasm to some of his friends, but they were too daunted by the task. As he lay on his bed in his hospital room, with the sunlight streaming through the windows, a gentle breeze blew the flimsy white curtains apart and he was able to see the sky and the tops of the trees outside for just a moment.

It seemed that there was a message for him not to give up. Suddenly an idea hit him. All he could do was move one finger and he decided to make the best use of it. By moving this, he slowly developed a code of communication with his wife.

He touched his wife's arm with that finger, indicating to her that he wanted her to call the engineers again. Then he used the same method of tapping her arm to tell the engineers what to do. It seemed foolish but the project was under way again.

For 13 years Washington tapped out his instructions with his finger on his wife's arm, until the bridge was finally completed. Today the spectacular Brooklyn Bridge stands in all its glory as a tribute to the triumph of one man's indomitable spirit and his determination not to be defeated by circumstances. It is also a tribute to the engineers and their team work, and to their faith in a man who was considered mad by half the world. It stands too as a tangible monument to the love and devotion of his wife who for 13 long years patiently decoded the messages of her husband and told the engineers what to do.

Perhaps this is one of the best examples of a never-say-die attitude that overcomes a terrible physical handicap and achieves an impossible goal.

Often when we face obstacles in our day-to-day life, our hurdles seem very small in comparison to what many others have to face. The Brooklyn Bridge shows that dreams that seem impossible can be realised with determination and persistence, no matter what the odds are.

The Tortoise and The Hare - What they learn about teamwork

Everyone knows about the story of the tortoise and the hare. What most people don't know is that the there are several valuable lessons on teamwork to be learnt from the story...

Long time ago, there was a tortoise and a hare who had an argument about who the faster runner was. They finally decided to take on one another on a race.

As the race started, the hare sprinted ahead briskly for some time. Realizing that it will take some time for the tortoise to catch up with him, he decided to seek shelter from the sun under a tree before continuing the race. As he sat under the tree, he gradually fell asleep. The tortoise, crawling at a steady pace, eventually overtook him and won the race. The hare woke up and realized that his complacency cost him the trophy.

The moral of the story is that the determined, hardworking and steady paced people will eventually overtake the fast but complacent. We are all familiar with this story.

Someone recently added a continuation to this age old tale. It goes like this:

The hare realized that he was over confident, complacent and took things too easily. He decided to have a re-match with the tortoise. The tortoise accepted his challenge.

This time, the hare ran with all his might and didn't stop until he crossed the finish line.

The moral of the story? Fast and consistent will always beat the slow and steady.

But the story doesn't end here.

This time, it was the tortoise that did the soul searching and he realized that if the hare didn't stop, there is no way he will beat him. He thought hard and decided on a different course and he challenged the hare to another re-match. The hare, of course, agreed.

With the lessons learnt from his previous failure in mind, the hare kept on running once the race started and didn't stop until the route leads him to the bank of a river. He was taken by surprise and he did not know what to do, since he could not swim. There were no bridges in sight and no one to ask for directions. As he was cracking his head, thinking of ways to cross the river, the tortoise strolled slowly along, dived into the river, swam across it and ultimately, finished the race before the hare.

The moral of the story? Know your strengths and take on your competitors in areas of your core competency.

The story still hasn't ended.

With the hare and the tortoise spending so much time together racing, they have become rather good friends, they have also developed mutual respect for one another as they realized that they are both different and they have different strengths. They decided to race again, but this time, as a team.

As the race started, the hare carried the tortoise and they sped to the river bank. There, they switched positions and the tortoise ferried the hare across the river. On the opposite bank, the hare again carried the tortoise and they crossed the finishing line together. They completed the race in a record time that both of them can never achieve if they were to do it alone. They also felt a greater sense of satisfaction than they'd felt earlier.

The moral of the story? It's good to be individually brilliant and to have strong core competencies but unless you're able to work in a team and harness each other's core competencies, you'll always perform below par because there will always be situations at which you'll do poorly and someone else does well.

Teamwork is mainly about situational leadership, letting the person with the relevant core competency for a situation take leadership. Being supportive team members is necessary for a team to advance.

There are more lessons on teamwork to be learned from this story. Note that neither the hare nor the tortoise gave up after failures. The hare decided to work harder and put in more effort after his failure. The tortoise changed his strategy because he was already working as hard as he could, but was not doing as well as he wished.

Imagine how long it will take the hare to learn how to swim! Or for the tortoise to learn to run fast. In this day and age when the environment changes at lightning speed, we have to learnt to work with people who have strengths in areas that we do not have.

It is the same in business, if we can collaborate with people who are experts in areas that we are not familiar with, we will realize that our market suddenly becomes bigger.

Sri Venkateswara

The ancient and sacred temple of Sri Venkateswara is located on the seventh peak, Venkatachala of the Tirupati Hills, and lies on the southern banks of Sri Swami Pushkarini. Lord Venkateswara is also called the Lord of the Seven Hills. Here, Sri Venkateswara is described as the great bestower of boons. The temple has its origins in Vaishnavism.

How to reach there?

From the city, Tirumala Hill is connected by free shuttle bus services provided by T.T.D and A.P.S.R.T.C.

By Rail
Tirupati Railway Station has direct trains to and from Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, Visakhapatnam, Chennai, Madurai, Puri and Hyderabad. Stations at Renigunta (15 km) and Gudur (100 km) also serve as the major connections across the country. From Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam, there are overnight trains for Tirupati.

By Road
Almost every town and city of Andhra Pradesh is connected with Tirupathi by regular bus services. The town is linked by road to Ahobolam (272 km), Bangalore (280 km), Horsley Hill (145 km), Hyderabad (555 km), Kalahasti (36 km), Lepakshi (379 km), Chennai (140 km), Srisailam (436 km), Vijayawada (380 km) and Renigunta (55 km). Taxis are available throughout Andhra Pradesh and neighboring states to reach Tirupathi.

Sri Varahaswami Temple

Sri Varahaswami Temple in Tirumala is to the north of the Sri Venkateswara temple, on the banks of Swami Pushkarini. According to legend, Tirumala was originally the Adi Varaha Kshetra or the place belonging to Sri Adi Varahaswami. Lord Sri Venkateswara took up residence here, with the permission of Sri Varahaswami. The shrine is dedicated to Vishnu’s avatar of a boar and is supposed to be visited before the main temple.

Srinivasamangapuram

This is located 11 kms away, is a huge stone temple is also dedicated to Lord Venkateshwara. His idol is beautifully dressed in silk, jewels and flowers.

Sri Anjaneyaswami Temple

Sri Anjaneyaswami Temple is located opposite the Sri Varahaswami temple on the northeastern banks of the Swami Pushkarini. It was constructed during the Mahant's period. The idol's hands are joined in supplication (in the Anjali posture). Sri Anjaneyaswami is believed to be a bestower of boons and a protector from all evils.

Alamelumangapuram

This temple is located 4kms from the main shrine and dedicated to Goddess Padmavati, consort of Lord Venkateshwara. Finely decked in silk and jewels, tradition demands that one must visit this shrine before heading to the main temple.

Swami Pushkarini

Swami Pushkarini, believed to be a pleasure tank of Lord Vishnu in Vaikuntham, is adjacent to the Sri Venkateswara temple. A bath in the Swami Pushkarini is believed to cleanse pilgrims of their sins and bestow temporal prosperity. Pilgrims bathe here before entering the main temple.

Sri Govindarajaswami Temple

Sri Govindarajaswami Temple is an important temple in Tirupati. The highlight iof this temple is the outer gopuram, which is visible from quite a distance. Saint Ramanujacharya consecrated the temple in AD 1130. The main deity is worshipped as brother of Lord Venkateshwara. The Brahmotsavam festival here attracts a large number of devotees every year.

Sri Kodandaramaswami Temple

Sri Kodandaramaswami Temple is situated in the heart of Tirupati town. The presiding deities are Sita, Rama and Lakshmana.

Sri Kapileswaraswami Temple

Sri Kapileswaraswami Temple is the only temple dedicated to Lord Siva, in the pantheon of Vaishnava temples in Tirupati.

Sri Kariya Manikyaswami Temple

Sri Kariya Manikyaswami Temple or Sri Perumala Swami Temple is located in Nagiri, 51 km from Tirupati. It is believed that Lord Vishnu killed Makara, a crocodile, and saved Gajendra, an elephant at this place.

Sri Annapurna Sameta Kasi Visweswaraswami Temple

The Legend

Lord Venkateswara or Balaji is considered to be an incarnation of Lord Vishnu himself. It is believed that he came to reside on the southern bank of Swami Pushkarni, a tank which passes by Tirumala.

The seven hills around Tirumala-Tirupati are also known as Sapthagiri after the seven hoods of Sheshnag – the cosmic serpent. The temple of Sri Venkateswara is located on the seventh peak, Venkatadri. According to one legend, as Saint Ramanuja born in 11th Century AD climbed the seven hills of Tirupati, Lord Srinivas- another name for Lord Venkateswara- appeared before him and gave him his blessings. And after that he is believed to have been blessed to live till the ripe age of 120 years to spread the gospel of Sri Venkateswara.

Tirupati is a result of contributions made by kings during their rule. Every ruler of the southern peninsula have paid homage to Lord Sri Venkateswara in this ancient shrine of Tirupati. The Pallavas of Kancheepuram (9th century AD), the Cholas of Thanjavur (a century later), the Pandyas of Madurai, and the kings and chieftains of Vijayanagar (14th - 15th century AD) were devotees of the Lord and they competed with one another in endowing the temple with rich offerings and contributions.

The Brahmotsavam is the most important temple festival celebrated at Tirupati-Balaji and is celebrated annually in September. This festival is especially grand every third year when it is called Navratri Brahmotsavam. On the third day of the Brahmotsavam, the temple car festival called Rathotsavam is held. Both the temple chariot and the Lord are beautifully decorated and taken around the streets of Tirumala.

Simhachalam
This is a hill shrine 16 km away from Visakhapatnam on the other side of the Hill on the north of the city. One of the most exquisitely sculpted shrines of Andhra Pradesh, Simhachalam temple is situated 16 km from Vizag among thickly wooded hills. The beautifully-carved 16-pillared Natya mantapa and the 96-pillared Kalyana mantapa bear testimony to the architectural brilliance of the temple. Simhachalam is said in mythology to be the abode of the savior-god Narasimha, who rescued Prahlada from abusive father Hiranyakasipu.

Srisailam
It is another major temple in Andhra Pradesh of national importance. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is one of the locations of the various Jyothirlingams.

Bhadrachalam
This is known for the Sri Rama temple and the Godavari river. This is the place where the famous Bhakta Ramadasu (originally - Kancherla Gopanna) wrote his devotional songs dedicated to lord Rama.

Basar - Saraswathi temple
It is another famous place for Saraswathi — goddess of education. Basara is located in Adilabad district.

Kanakadurga temple
It is a famous temple in Andhra Pradesh, India. It is located on the Indrakeeladri hill in the city of Vijayawada on the banks of Krishna River.

Yaaganti Caves is also an important pilgrim center in Andhra Pradesh. Apart from that Mahanandi, Kurnool Dt is another piligrim center which is full of greenary. Located in the West region, Maharashtra is the third largest state of India by size and the second largest by population. It stretches from the west coast to the interior regions and its climate too varies with its geography. Maharashtra contains India's most industrialized region, the Mumbai-Pune belt. In the 17th Century, the Marathas rose under the leadership of Chhatrapati Shivaji against the Mughals who were ruling a large part of India. After the third Anglo-Maratha war, the empire ended and most of Maharashtra became part of Bombay state under a British Raj.

Maharashtra is the richest state in India, contributing to 15% of the country's industrial output and 13.2% of its GDP in year 2005-06.

Several wildlife sanctuaries, national parks and Project Tiger reserves have been created in Maharashtra, with the aim of conserving the rich bio-diversity of the region. As of May 2004, India has 92 national parks, of which 5 are located in Maharashtra. A large percentage of Maharashtra's forests and wildlife lie in the Vidarbha region.

Ajanta & Ellora Caves
One of the most outstanding specimens of ancient Indian heritage are the Ajanta & Ellora group of caves. Maharashtra state treasures this mesmerizing caves which were accidentally discovered in the 19th century by the British. Ellora houses 34 caves while Ajanta houses 29 caves. Each cave depicting a tale from the Jatakas or depicting stories of Buddhism, Jainism and Hinduism.

Elephanta Caves
The Elephanta island is known for its great cave shrine, excavated in the 6th century. The island lies 10 km northeast to Apollo Bunder or Gateway of India. The island which was known as Gharapuri earlier is the glorious abode of Lord Shiva. This is land was renamed, Elephanta by the Portuguese who landed here, after the majestic carved elephant on this island.
How to get there?
The Elephanta Caves, dating back to 600 AD, can be reached by a ferry rideof about 1 hour from the Gateway of India.
Best time to visit: November to March is the ideal time to visit the island.
Open from 09 hours to 17 hours (except Mondays). Entry fee for those above 12 years - Rs. 5.00. Free entry on Fridays.

Murud Janjira

Lonavala and Khandala
On the way to Pune from Mumbai come the two pleasant hill stations of Maharashtra, Lonavala and Khandala. Set at a height of 625 m they are located on the western slopes of the Sahyadri mountain range. The two hill stations are 5 kms apart. Fascinating panoramic beauty adorns these places. Khandala being the smaller of the two is relatively calmer. The lush greenery of the mountains especially during the monsoons and the misty paths attract tourist like honey bees here. How to get there?
Due to its location the Mumbai Pune highway, every car going towards South India via Pune pass through Lonavala and Khandala. The Mumbai Bangalore national highway all pass through Lonavala and Khandala. State buses, private buses, taxis, and package tour agencies offer regular services to Lonavala and Khandala. It is also well connected by rail. Connecting trains are available from Mumbai and Pune. The train journey to Lonavala and Khandala is awesome. The train passes through about 20 tunnels.

Bassein Fort
Located just 55 kms. (a 90 min. journey) away from Bombay, is Bassein, one of the most important sea forts of Maharashtra. The last bastion of the first sea-faring foreign power in India, the Portuguese. Built by Bahadur Shah -Sultan of Gujarat from 1526-1537, it was initially one of a chain of forts intended to guard the coasts against the Portuguese and pirates. The Portuguese however captured it and remodelled the fort, building a citadel inside.
How to get there?
To get here, try the railways. the nearest Railway Station is Vasai Road (7 km). There are ST buses from Vasai Railway Station to Bassein Fort. 19 km away is Arnala Fort, (9 km from Virar ) a beautiful sea fort of Chhatrapati Shivaji. There are buses connecting Vasai city and Arnala Village and then ferry services to the Fort.

Raigad
Raigad also known as Durgadeshwar is the lord of all the 360 odd forts in the state of Maharashtra. Now you may wonder why is Raigad the king of all forts - but there is a very good reason behind Raigad being crowned thus. It is because Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, who roused the patriotic fervour by his guru mantra, Hindavi Swaraj, which later, became his war cry, chose this fort as his capital. The fort was originally named Raigiri. It was renamed Raigad by Shivaji who was coronated on June 6, 1674
How to get there?
By road, Raigad is 23 km off the Mahad Junction on the left, and the road up is quite steep. The route is Mumbai - Panvel - Palaspe - Nagothane - Kolad - Indapur - Mangaon - (Raigad) - Mahad

Matheran
This place was discovered in 1850 and due to its greenery & shade it was immediately taken as the nearest hill station from Mumbai. Matheran is sightly above the plains so it is cool and provides respite from the heat of Mumbai. The place provides very nice views of the near by places, particularly on a clear day one can even see Mumbai from the Hart point. Though the local population of Matheran is very less but the visitors pour at this place frequently. Matheran has maintained the tranquility and peace by banning any kind of motor vehicle. The best season to visit this place is between November to June but the place is worth visiting any time of the year. During the monsoon the trails become very dirty and the place virtually shuts down.

How to reach there?
You can catch a Karjat bound local train from CST(a.k.a. VT Mumbai, India) on the Central Railway to Neral Station. From Neral Station , there is a toy train which runs to Matheran about 4 times in a day. This toy train is not operational when railway route is under maintenance or when there is a perceived hazard e.g. the monsoons. The only way to know about it is at the Neral Station. The train is normally full, so turn up in good time to ensure you get a ticket.

Panchagani
Situated at an altitude of 1334 mts it lies just 38 m below Mahabaleshwar. It gets name from the 5 hills around it. The way to Panchgani from Mahabaleshwar which is 18 kms is absolutely spectacular. The Krishna river that meanders through the farms, ravines and hamlets on one side and the coastal plains on the other side has a mesmeric charm. Panchgani has been a retreat for a long time. It displays architecture of Old British building. Parsi houses and the boarding school which would be almost a century old.

Numerous old British buildings and Parsi houses with most of them being famous educational institutes are present. There are as many as twenty boarding schools in Panchgani. P
anchagani with its immaculate natural beauty and rejuvenating oxygen levels prides itself of a TB Sanatorium. Patients are known to get healthier faster at Panchgani owing to its clean and unpolluted surroundings.

Pune is a popular railway station for tourists to Panchgani at a distance of 98 km from Panchgani. Though the railway station nearest to happens to be at Wathar. Panchgani is well linked with Mumbai and Pune through road.

Sinhagad Fort
Sinhagad, is one of the important Maratha forts having a colourful history linked with it. A history that echoes with the bravery of the Maratha conquest of Kondana fort by Tanaji Malasure. Today. 24 kms. south-west of Pune, battle-scarred, it rises intimidating, amidst the Bhuleshwar range.
